I saw the movie My Name is Khan as it was released i Dubai yesterday. I cried seven times. I don't think I've cried in a cinema before. The main character Rizvan Khan, an Indian Muslim with Asperger's Syndrome, is taken for being a terrorist. It was cathartic in a way, to watch this movie now more than eight years after 9/11. It deals with the fallout of 9/11 from so many different angles and it was very clever to have a character like Khan - who takes all statements literally - to try to grapple with how 9/11 has affected different faith communities and how these communities relate to each other.

Thank you for this review. I will be looking for it. Until I met Terry, I did not know anyone with Aspergers. Terry fits most of the symptoms for he lacked social skills in one on one, but he was so clever and a talented poet. I am so glad he trusted me to come help him for it took a lot of courage on his part. I can hardly imagine how difficult it was for a young muslim to deal with authority. It frightens me to think of it.
Recently there was an article in our paper of a young couple from here in Danville, Illinois who are living in Dubui for he is a project engineer. I was interested because that is what my SIL did when he worked for Stant, an international firm for automobile parts. With the recession and the bankruptcy of the major automobile companies, Jeff was let go. It took a year before a firm in a city south of here hired him as their project director. They make garden tractors and off the road vehicles!! Who knew???
I hope all is well with you and yours.
Hugs,
Bev
I haven't checked the time as to the difference between your country and here, but I am going to take the chance that you will be reading this on March 22, 2010
