I didn't get the scholarship for the PhD.
That's the end of my dreams of a career in academia, blissfully busying myself with linguistic theories and writing papers and theses. I'm obviously very disappointed to say the least. However, It was great to have tasted this feeling that it is actually possible to get to the top, to get where you really want to be. It just didn't happen and that is all there is to it.
After a quick visit to the bank yesterday, I found out that they are not prepared to lend me money for a further two months to bridge the gap between my empty bank account and a potential translation job in September, when my MA dissertation is due. Well, not without a signed job contract, that is. My bank owns me now, after I have taken out this loan for the MA.
I'll have to live on plastic for the time being.
So, this is a double-dose of reality after having spent the last four months dreaming of the Heaven of Academia. The bottom line is: I'm now job-hunting and I need a job fast. Especially since I don't qualify for university housing any longer and need to move out of here by next month.
My plan of action is to try and secure some job interviews for translation jobs (in-house) within the next ten days or so. If I don't get any response from the companies I'm sending my CV to, I'll start applying for an English teaching job in London so I at least have an income and can move somewhere strategic. London is obviously very strategic.

I'm sorry.........
We all have dreams! You have come so far! You have accomplished many good things ! Good luck in finding the job you need! Karolyn
As a mother, I'm saddened to hear that you are in a low place right now. My son says that when you can't go any lower, you can only go up. This has worked for him. It is distressing that things are bleak right now. I really hope that you get a job to tide you over. Best wishes.
Positive thinking will get you anywhere!
Sometimes wind comes with not on our wishes but soon it’ll pass, & I think I know you well, so you’ll get a better chance soon.. good luck, with my best wishes.
I am sorry , I did not expect it , the standards must be incredible high there.
I wish you a lot of luck.
That's brilliant keeping all the weight off like that. Congrats!
Congrats on keeping the weight off! That is the biggest hurdle, keeping it off. I am so sorry your are experiencing financial troubles now! What a bummer! I am sending good vibes that you get a job in London. That is my favorite place and if you stay there, I will someday get to meet you!!!
